The Hoop house is at its finest so time for another Farm Tour! Spring weather makes for wonderful spring flowers and snapdragons, sweet peas, and campanula are in full bloom, and while the peonies have faded some of the field perennials will be making an appearance as well. We’ll start at the Homeplace  (turn in at 385 Bruce Doan Rd., Blountville, 37617). After Roy gives us a bit of history of the farm and Civil War happenings, we’ll check out the dahlia beds, our new garden structures, and see what’s coming along with summer annuals. The few dahlias we overwintered will likely be in bud and those recently planted will be popping up. Then on to the hoop house which has the cool flowers in so many pretty colors. You’ll see some easy to recognize blooms and some you haven’t met yet. Sweet peas will remind us that flowers can still have fragrance. Next we’ll head to Aunt Willies’ where most of the 150 peonies grow. We’ve cut the last of the peonies but we can peek in the cooler and see full buckets already stored. So much pretty spring foliage here and lots of woodies and perennials ready to pop. Finally, a quick visit to the chicken coop/flower studio, cooler, bucket shed, and workshop space with plenty of time to ask questions and just wander around a bit and enjoy a farm in springtime.
Cost of the tour is $38 and includes lots of history, growing information, a cup holder bouquet, and time to relax on a flower farm. Bring nippers or scissors if you have them as you may snip a few blooms to add the bouquet already started for you.
Bring your questions and come ready to learn and hopefully make a friend or two along the way. See below for more details and payment. And remember, we meet rain or shine!
