Winter Nature Writing Workshop, Feb 21, 9-4

$150.00

From bluebirds to mossy rocks, from lichen to fern fronds. . . there is so much beauty on a farm in winter to ignite our imagination and our creativity.

This one-day workshop will gather those of us who would like to better express ourselves through writing, be a part of a nature loving community, and receive feedback as we improve our writing skills. *Dr Heather Hoover (teacher, author, farmer) will help us find and appreciate the beauty of winter and guide us as we learn to tell the stories nature shares.

We’ll gather in our sunroom complete with panoramic mountain views and then wander fields, rocky outcroppings, and falling down buildings. We’ll also likely observe more than one animal living her best winter life.

Heather will lead the workshop which will include observation, guided writing practice, reflection, and revising. We hope participants will leave with several potential ideas to pursue and pieces to develop.

Lunch and a snack or two will be provided but please dress for the day, bring your own water bottle and a favorite notebook or journal if you have one (we’ll have some here if you don’t).

We’re moving towards more get-outside experiences so we’re excited for this shiny brand new out-in-nature time together! Hope you’re able to join us.

* Dr. Hoover teaches writing, humanities, literature, and poetry at Milligan University and directs the university writing program. She is the author of If Moon, Then Yes (Dancing Girl Press), strong female protagonist (Finishing Line Press), and Composition as Conversation: Seven Virtues of Effective Writing (Baker Academic). In addition, she has had poems published in many journals and magazines and was nominated this year for a Pushcart Prize for her poem “Golden Ratio.”  She has been teaching writing for over 25 years, but she has been loving and tending words for as long as she can remember. Heather is also a friend who tends a farm with goats and chickens and raises vegetables and flowers.
